During School Day, Principal Hui-Chen Chiang shared Huadong Taiwan Businessman’s School’s future direction with parents under the theme, “Strengthening Foundations, Connecting with the World, Moving Toward the Future, and Creating Excellence Together.”
She emphasized that the heart of education is to see and support every child. Education should not only develop students’ abilities, but also cultivate character; not only pursue achievement, but also safeguard well-being and expand the possibilities for students to choose their own future.
In response to the changes brought by AI and globalization, Huadong is gradually shifting from knowledge transmission to competency development. While maintaining a strong academic foundation, the school is placing greater emphasis on inquiry, communication, interdisciplinary learning, and digital creativity.
Huadong views kindergarten, primary school, middle school, and high school as one continuous K–12 learning journey. In the early years and primary grades, students develop security, curiosity, reading, and communication. In middle school, they strengthen critical thinking, interdisciplinary inquiry, and problem-solving. In high school, they further connect learning with project-based research, career development, and global perspectives, ensuring that each stage prepares students for the next.
The school also promotes its Four Language Pillars: Computational Language, Academic Research Language, Intercultural Language, and Design & Innovation Language. Through these four pillars, students move beyond listening, speaking, reading, writing, and numeracy toward becoming learners who can understand, express, create, and act.
Principal Chiang noted that education is not about deciding a child’s future for them, but about giving every student the ability, courage, and opportunity to make meaningful choices. Moving forward, Huadong will continue to connect families, communities, and international resources to build a learning pathway in which every child can see their own growth and step confidently into the world.
